Resolution 1070 temporarily suspended controlled open burning across Colombia's rural territory. The measure responds to El Niño, 539 municipalities under alerts and 600 fires that had affected 14,872 hectares by 15 August.
Resolution 0961 declared 483,283 km² of the Amazon biome a permanent reserve and excluded new mining concessions and hydrocarbon contracts. The measure protects forests, water and biodiversity while respecting pre-existing rights, other regulated uses and Indigenous territories.
The 10 August emission forced flight operations to stop while the volcano was under orange alert. Colombia's Geological Service reported rising seismic energy and hotter gas and ash emissions, but ruled out a direct link to the earthquake that day.
